
Sonya Myles Sloan, M.D. Dr. Sonya Myles Sloan, affectionately known as #OrthoDoc, is a trailblazer in the male-dominated field of Orthopedic Surgery. Licensed to practice medicine across multiple states, Dr. Sloan travels the nation, delivering exceptional care and advancing her holistic approach to patient health. A graduate of Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Chemistry, she earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). At Baylor College of Medicine, she made history as the first African-American female Intern in General Surgery and the first African-American female Orthopedic Surgery resident. Her groundbreaking work includes published research in Orthopedic Surgery and a joint venture with NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Dr. Sloan seamlessly integrates her scientific expertise with an unwavering commitment to empowering others. Her nonprofit, SLOAN STEM+Arts, is dedicated to increasing minority representation in STEM careers through early exposure and mentorship, laying the foundation for generational wealth and equity. Internationally, she partnered with The Luke Church and New Missions Organization to establish a medical clinic in Haiti, now serving over 100,000 individuals annually.
Her influence extends to numerous boards, including Black Women Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Institute of Spirituality and Health, RoweDocs Telemedicine, and Women of Orthopaedics Worldwide. As a strategic medical consultant, blogger, podcast co-host of Meidas Touch Network’s “Ella: Black and Brown Women Disruptors,” and speaker, Dr. Sloan is a dynamic voice for innovation and equity in medicine. She has also been an Adjunct Professor at Concordia University, focusing on Health Care Administration. A serial entrepreneur, she pioneered Virtual OrthoDoc, one of the first telemedicine platforms dedicated to orthopedic care.

Her Amazon #1 Best Seller in Medical Education and Medical Training, The Rules of Medicine: A Medical Professional’s Guide to Success, is a cornerstone for aspiring and practicing medical professionals alike. In 2021, Dr. Sloan co-founded National Black Women Physicians Day (#NBWPD) to honor Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first African American woman physician in the U.S.

Dr. Sloan’s dedication to fostering health, entrepreneurship, leadership, and spiritual growth makes her a highly sought-after speaker and thought leader. She is a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and The Links Incorporated member. As the First Lady of “The Luke,” a megachurch in North Houston, Texas, she collaborates with her husband, Dr. Timothy W. Sloan, to uplift their community. She also founded God’s Women Rock, an international awards concert celebrating women making a meaningful difference.
Her most cherished role is as a mother to her three children, embodying the balance of professional excellence and personal fulfillment.
