It will dictate to you what you think, where you go, what you do and whom you do it with. If your not careful the one thing that you despise the most can become your tour guide thru life. It will even determine how you respond to the future that is in front of you. All of this is a reality…unless you make different choices.

During this holy week as we reflect on the Passion of Christ remember one the most powerful statements in human history – “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing (Luke 23:34 NIV).” He could have justifiably held the Roman soldiers accountable for their actions and pointed the symbolic finger of suggestion; “I’m going to get you back for this.” Instead He chose a different route. He freed them from the repercussions of their heinous crime and cleared the way to His purpose. In one statement, Jesus transferred authority from the irresponsible hands of the Roman soldiers to the ordained plan of God. Even with their slashing words and brutal acts, they did not have the power. The power was in the hands of God.

Maybe there’s something in your life that caused you great pain and angst. It still haunts you to this day. Even though you survived it, you’re still consumed by it. Don’t allow your past and the attempts of others to frustrate your purpose. Today you can seize power from the grips of your past. You can take authority over what happened to you. Follow the model Christ and offer forgiveness. It ‘s a simple word with amazing power.
